     2011 MOUNTAIN TREASURE HONOREE

The Dungannon HS Alumni Association honored Paul G. Gillenwater, Class of 1960, as the Mountain Treasure for 2011. He was given the plaque at the Annual Meeting in September.

Paul was nominated by Phyllis McNew Nitschke, Class of '59. Phyllis' Letter of Nomination follows:

"I would like to nominate Paul Gillenwater, class of DHS 1960, to receive the 2011 Mountain Treasure Award.
Paul is an active, supporting member of the Association. He served as DHS President for 2007-2008. Paul and Betty Salyer were responsible for obtaining the DHS memorabilit display cabinet at Dungannon Intermediate School.
Paul was born on Stoney Creek to Banner and Ruth Gillenwater, the youngest of four sons. His education began at Ft. Blackmore and was completed at Dungannon High. His desire for learning was shaped by a number of good teachers, such as Lillian and Cecil Mann, Vonda Dorton; Sue Mays; J.T. Gwinn; A.J. Stapleton; Bill and Joyce Osborne. They gave him the opportunity for additional studies. Paul entered Clinch Valley College and finished at ETSU with a degree in Chemistry where course work for a Masters in Chemistry was completed.
Paul was employed at Eastman Kodak (now Eastman Chemical) in 1965 and was employed there for more than 35 years. He was plant manager for a new facility in Kuantan, Malaysia, and Manufacturing Manager for the Specialty Plastics Business.
Paul and Linda Martin have been married for forty+ years. They have two children and two special grandchildren. They are members of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Paul is an active member of the Ruritan, Lions Club, Rotary Club and DHS Alumni Association. Most recently he served as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for neglected and abused children.
It gives me great pleasure to recommend Paul for the 2011 Mountain Treasure Award.

Sincerely,
Phyllis

We congratulate Paul on this honor and feel it is well-deserved.

Welcome to the website of the Dungannon High School Alumni Association. If you are a graduate or just attended our school from 1912-1968, we hope you will find something of interest. If you just stumbled upon our website, we hope you will take a look at us.

Although Dungannon High School closed its doors in 1968 with the last graduates, we who went there hold it dear in our hearts. We are all getting older now, but we have many memories of teachers, classmates, friends, and our stately building in our hearts that have lasted a lifetime. We honor all who attended Dungannon High School with this website. Enjoy!

Kenneth Lane, Custodian of the Dungannon Intermediate School, hangs the painting in the school lobby.

One is silver, the other gold
